Start with Dreamina to develop the poster's visual idea, then arrange the final wording in an editable layout when accuracy and future changes matter. AI can produce a complete image with a short headline, or supply artwork for a design you finish yourself. The right route depends on what the poster must communicate and which parts need to remain editable.
Here is a full workflow for an event, promotion, school project or decorative poster, including the checks that turn an attractive picture into a usable file.

1. Define the poster's job and destination
Write down the action the reader should take: attend an event, visit a destination, learn a message or simply enjoy the artwork. A poster has limited attention and space. Give it one main purpose before deciding on the decorative style.
Next, determine where it will appear. A printed wall poster needs a different reading distance and production file from an image in a social feed. Ask the printer for trim size, bleed, safe margins, color requirements and preferred file format before building a print layout. For digital use, get the destination's actual dimensions and crop behavior.
Do not use a generic “high resolution” prompt as a substitute for these decisions. The generator creates an image; the output still needs to suit its destination.
2. Approve the wording and choose what stays editable
Separate the visual brief from the factual copy. Put the exact title, supporting line, date, time, location and response destination in a small copy sheet. Include prices, offers or claims only when confirmed. For a school or educational poster, check the facts against appropriate sources before designing around them.
Choose one of two routes:
- Integrated image: Generate the artwork and short wording together. This can suit a fixed concept or an artistic title treatment, but corrections affect pixels.
- Editable layout: Generate the visual, then add exact wording in text boxes. This is useful for events, promotions, translations and repeated versions.
You can combine them: keep a generated decorative headline while adding practical details as live text. Make that decision before generating, so the artwork leaves enough room for the information.
A JPEG placed in a design editor remains one flattened image object. It does not become a set of editable words merely because it sits inside an editable project. To make the wording independently changeable, create actual text boxes or use a documented text-extraction feature and inspect its reconstruction.
3. Write a composition brief for Dreamina
Open Dreamina's image workflow, select an available model and choose a ratio suited to the poster. Give the generator a hierarchy, not just a collection of visual adjectives.
Include the subject, visual style, palette, main focal point, intended text area and exclusions. For a typographic poster, specify which words dominate and which remain secondary. For an artwork-first route, request a calm area for the text you will add later.
Here is an illustrative background prompt, not a separately tested result:
Create a portrait editorial poster background for a fictional design exhibition. A sculptural ivory paper form and a single vermilion circle on a warm off-white field. Restrained shadows and generous negative space. Place the paper sculpture to the right and keep a clear left column for a large two-line title and three smaller information groups. No lettering, logos or mockup frame.
If you want a complete image with text, add the exact wording and its order. Keep it concise enough for the composition. Upload a logo or product image only when you have permission, and explain whether it must stay accurate or merely informs the visual direction. Check the attached references before submitting so unrelated images do not influence the design.
4. Generate, select and inspect the actual result
Compare the candidates against the poster's purpose. Look for a clear focal point, useful empty space and a reading path that leads from title to practical information. Reject attractive artwork that leaves no usable location for the content.
The following Dreamina example is a fictional exhibition poster. It was generated with Seedream 5.0 Pro and exported as a 1792 × 2240 JPEG.
All five intended text groups were correct in this example, including the date and time, and the practical information remained readable at 360 pixels wide. It demonstrates that a complete short-text poster can work. It does not establish that every generated poster will have correct spelling or that the JPEG contains editable type.
For your own result, check the subject and lettering separately. Look for extra words, altered logos, unwanted mockup frames, distorted objects and symbols that could imply an unapproved sponsor or endorsement. Inspect important fine detail at full size as well as the overall composition.
5. Build or refine the editable layout
Create the target-size page in a layout editor. Place the selected artwork, then add the approved text as separate elements. Align the title and information to a simple grid, and use spacing to show which details belong together. A large title, a concise supporting line and a compact practical-information block are often easier to follow than several competing styles.
Keep the practical text readable over the artwork. You can move the image, introduce a plain information panel or simplify the decoration. Avoid solving every space problem by making the copy smaller. The poster's actual viewing conditions determine whether the text works.
If you prefer AI to propose the editable structure itself, Adobe Express documents a template route: from its homepage, select the plus icon, open Quick actions → Generative AI → Generate template, describe the design, choose a result and select Edit template. Customize the copy, images and styling, then download. This is a different workflow from importing a generated JPEG. Check which elements are editable in the chosen result and which assets or functions require your plan.
For a broader software choice, compare AI tools for making posters by artwork generation and editable layout support.
For repeated posters, save a master with designated areas for the title, artwork, date and response details. Keep logos and exact brand colors under your control rather than regenerating them with each variation. Test the longest expected title before treating the layout as reusable.
6. Proofread facts and check the reading distance
Read the exported draft against the approved copy sheet character by character. Confirm names, numerals, punctuation, dates, opening hours, prices and web addresses. Read any small conditions too. An AI spelling check can help spot issues, but it should not replace comparison with the actual approved facts.
Check the poster at its intended size. For a feed image, inspect a phone-size preview. For print, inspect a physical-size proof or a representative section printed at actual scale, then consider how far away the audience will stand. A correct date is still ineffective if readers cannot find it.
In a later edit to the fictional poster above, the date changed from NOV 14–16, 2026 to NOV 21–23, 2026. The valid image-edit attempt used only the original poster as its reference. The new date was correct and the other four text groups and overall layout remained visually consistent. Small pixel differences also occurred elsewhere, so this was a successful visual revision, not proof that every non-target pixel remained untouched.
For a change to a flattened poster, inspect the whole result after the edit. If the date is already a live text element, change that element directly and recheck line wrapping. A recurring event schedule is usually easier to maintain in the editable layout.
If a flattened file is all you have, follow the methods to edit text in an image online before rebuilding the whole design.
If the poster contains a QR code, place a real code generated from the approved destination into the layout. Test the final exported or printed code on another device. A generated pattern that resembles a QR code is not a verified response mechanism.
7. Export for the destination and preserve the master
For digital sharing, export the required PNG or JPEG and reopen the actual downloaded file. Confirm dimensions, crop, text and file size. If you create several ratios, reflow the information for each rather than stretching the complete design.
For print, use the printer's requested document size and file specification. Confirm bleed, safe margins, image resolution at final placement and font handling. If a particular color profile is required, use an export workflow that supports it and request a proof when color matters.
A PDF can contain raster artwork, vector elements and text in different combinations. Saving an image as a PDF does not automatically make the artwork vector, supply missing detail or guarantee that another person can edit every word. Likewise, an image's pixel dimensions do not by themselves prove a suitable large print size.
Check the artwork at the intended print size
Calculate effective resolution from the pixels actually placed on the page:
Effective pixels per inch = image width in pixels ÷ placed width in inches.
Check the height too. If the complete 1792 × 2240 example occupies 8 × 10 inches, both axes give 224 ppi: 1792 ÷ 8 and 2240 ÷ 10. This is a hypothetical placement calculation. It does not establish that a printer accepts 224 ppi or that every detail in the generated image prints cleanly.
An 11 × 17-inch page has a different shape from this 4:5 artwork. Choose the treatment before calculating final resolution: keep the full art with borders, crop part of it, or recompose the page. A crop removes pixels, so calculate from the retained image area. Stretching it to fill the page would distort the sculpture and lettering.
Ask the printer for the required bleed, safe area, font handling, color profile and final file type. Keep those production settings separate from the generated image's ratio. Print a physical-size proof, or an important section at actual scale, to examine the smallest text, edges and tonal transitions at the intended viewing distance.
Saving as PDF does not add detail. An enlarged image may contain more pixels while retaining soft or invented fine structures. Check the actual proof before approving the quantity, and keep a separate digital export if its crop or wording differs.
Keep the editable master separately from the final delivery file. Include the approved wording and original artwork so a future correction does not begin from a compressed social-media copy. If sharing the master with someone else, check their access and confirm that required fonts and assets are available under the relevant permissions.
8. Adapt the design without losing its message
For a square post, landscape banner or translated version, preserve the main visual idea while rebuilding the information hierarchy. A long translation may need a wider text panel. A small screen may need less supporting copy. A print poster may need more prominent practical details than a decorative online concept.
Treat each output as a separate proof. Confirm that the event information is current and that no crop removes a response line or important condition. Retire obsolete exports when details change, so the wrong version is not circulated later.
Common problems and fixes
Frequently asked questions
Can I make a poster without design experience?
Yes. Start with a simple brief, one visual idea and an editable information hierarchy. Dreamina can develop the artwork; a template or layout editor can help arrange exact details. Inspect the final file rather than judging only the generated preview.
Can I make it for free?
Dreamina US Free accounts receive 120 daily credits, with regional and model differences. Check available models and the current quote. Template services may separately restrict premium assets, resizing or AI functions; a free starting point does not mean every part of the workflow is unlimited.
Can I use the poster for a business?
Check the applicable feature, model and account terms, along with the rights to photographs, fonts, logos and other uploaded material. Some services distinguish particular beta features or personal-use products. Do not assume that a download or an AI-generated image settles those permissions.
What counts as a finished AI poster?
A finished poster has an approved message, a clear reading order, correct details and an output file suited to its destination. Keep a reusable master when future changes are likely. Use Dreamina to create the visual direction, then finish the layout and proofing that make the poster useful.
