Start with Dreamina when you want to shape what happens next in a scene, using the available video and reference controls. For a short continuation without paying, Magic Hour and ExtendAI Video offer guest allowances, while Inflyu offers one extension after email verification.

The best choice depends on what you already have: footage from your phone, a clip generated inside another platform, or just a final frame you want to animate. It also depends on whether you need an automatic ending or want to describe the next action. Here is how the options differ—and how to turn the added seconds into a usable edit.

Free AI video extenders at a glance

An AI video extender creates new footage to continue a shot. A loop repeats existing frames; a freeze frame holds one image. Both can be useful editing choices, but they produce a different kind of ending.

Tool or route
What you can start with
Free access that matters
Continuation and control
Dreamina
Eligible footage in an available extension mode; a reference image for a separate continuation shot
Free daily credits for available workflows; US accounts receive 120 per day, with different allowances elsewhere. Check the selected extension mode and quote
Describe the next action and use the controls offered by the model; a separately generated shot needs an edit to join it
Magic Hour
Uploaded video up to 200 MB
No account; a shared allowance of three guest video generations per day
Automatic four-second continuation; optional direction belongs to the signed-in full tool
ExtendAI Video
MP4, MOV or WebM up to 50 MB
No account; three credits each calendar month
Add five seconds for one credit or ten for two; upload starts the automatic job
Inflyu
A clip from 1.7 to 14.9 seconds long
One four- or six-second extension after email verification, with no card
Describe what happens next; free output includes branding and a short end card

These are different forms of free access, rather than unlimited production plans. For example, three monthly credits can cover three five-second ExtendAI continuations or one ten-second continuation and one five-second continuation. Repeating a job also uses resources.

Kling, Pika, Runway, Pollo AI and Filmora have relevant extension workflows too. Their source-clip, model and account conditions matter enough to explain separately below. A platform having a Free plan does not establish that every extension feature is included.

Dreamina: develop a short clip into a fuller scene

Dreamina is a useful starting point when the next few seconds need a creative direction: a camera continuing toward a greenhouse door, a character finishing a turn, or a product remaining in the same pool of light. Think about the action you need before choosing a longer duration. A short, deliberate continuation can give a scene a stronger ending than simply asking for more footage.

Prepare the original clip and write a clear description of what should happen next. In an available video-extension workflow, use eligible source footage, select the controls offered by that model and check the generation quote. Dreamina Seedance 2.5 supports eligible-source extension, but source requirements and output length depend on the mode. Keep the original file so you can compare the join and preserve the take you already like.

You can also develop a continuation from a reference image. Save a clean final frame, use it to guide the next action in image-to-video, and join the accepted new shot in an editor. This creates a separate reference-led clip; it still needs a matched cut. It is particularly useful when you want to plan the next visual beat rather than extend the original file automatically.

Dreamina Free gives US accounts 120 daily credits; allowances differ by region. Available free models include Seedance 2.0. The selected model, duration and feature determine consumption, so the balance does not translate into a fixed number of free Seedance 2.5 extensions. Check the current mode and quote before generating; actual quantities are subject to the final output.

Choose Dreamina when you want to develop the scene itself, keeping the subject, lighting and intended movement clear as you work toward the final edit.

Magic Hour: add four seconds without an account

Magic Hour suits a small, automatic addition: upload a video up to 200 MB and request four more seconds. No account is required; the guest allowance is shared across three free video generations per day.

Use a steady ending, then review whether the continuation fits your edit. Optional prompt and audio guidance belong to the signed-in full tool. Without an eligible subscription or credit-pack purchase, output is for personal, non-commercial use.

ExtendAI Video: choose a five- or ten-second continuation

ExtendAI Video is useful when you want a direct upload-and-wait workflow with a choice of two short lengths. Its current Free tier provides three credits each calendar month without an account or card. Five added seconds cost one credit; ten cost two. Unused free credits do not roll over.

ExtendAI Video’s official pricing page showing three monthly Free credits, five- and ten-second extension costs, and watermark-free results

Prepare an MP4, MOV or WebM file no larger than 50 MB. Uploading starts the job automatically, so have the intended file ready before choosing it. There is no prompt form or model picker in this workflow. Preview the result, download the MP4 and check whether it includes everything you want in the finished edit.

The current pricing page lists watermark-free results for the Free tier. Results use unlisted share links, which can be convenient for review; that does not make processing entirely local or remove the need to check retention conditions for sensitive footage.

Inflyu: direct one short continuation with a prompt

Inflyu offers a useful one-off route when you want to describe the next action. A free account with a verified email, without a card, can make one short extension of four or six seconds. The source video must be between 1.7 and 14.9 seconds long.

Inflyu’s official video-extension page explaining the one-off four- or six-second free extension, verified-email requirement and output branding

Upload the clip, choose an eligible added length and write one plain instruction about what happens next. The result is saved as a new file, leaving the original untouched. Its free output includes a small “Made with inflyu” mark and a short Inflyu end card. Longer choices and later extensions require paid credits.

Use this for a restrained continuation, such as carrying on a slow walk. Check the added footage before keeping it: the workflow uses the ending frame as guidance, so the original clip's full movement history should not be assumed to carry through perfectly.

More extension tools if you already have access

If your clip is already inside a generation platform or desktop editor, its own extension workflow may save a round trip. The following tools are worth checking in that situation. Their current account or model conditions make them different from the open guest routes above.

Pollo AI: continue a clip created in Pollo

Pollo AI's published extension workflow begins by selecting a video generated with Pollo. You then add a continuation prompt if needed, start the extension and download the completed result.

Pollo AI’s official extension instructions beginning with a video generated in Pollo, followed by a prompt and download

That makes it relevant when you already have a Pollo-generated take you want to carry forward. Keep the instruction tied to the same action and camera direction, then review the new ending in context. Confirm the selected model and credit requirement before starting; the general Free entry is not a promise that every model's extension is included. This workflow should also not be treated as a guarantee of free extension for arbitrary external uploads.

Kling: match the extension workflow to the model

Kling's older post-generation extension guide describes automatic and custom continuation of generated clips. Auto-Extend follows the existing content; Customized Extend lets you describe the next movement. The same guide discusses four- to five-second steps and a total of up to three minutes.

Kling’s November 2025 extension guide describing Auto-Extend and Customized Extend for generated clips; current model availability must be checked separately

Those instructions belong to that documented workflow. Kling's November 2026 model guide separately marks the new Kling 4.0 upload-and-extend feature as coming soon. Do not transfer the older three-minute figure or its access conditions to every current model.

If you already have an eligible generated clip with an available Extend control, keep the continuation focused on the existing subject and motion. Check the model and credit requirement in that workspace before choosing it as your free route.

Pika: extend before or after a clip

Pika's Extend Video app can generate footage after a clip ends or before it begins. That is a different job from Pikaframes, which animates between still images.

Pika’s expanded official FAQ stating that its Free plan allows credit-pack purchases and includes no monthly credit allowance

For an existing video, choose Extend Video and provide the clip and the direction you want. This can suit a shot that needs a lead-in as well as an ending. The important access condition is that Pika's current Free plan does not include a monthly credit allowance. You can buy credit packs without subscribing, but that remains a paid generation route. If your goal is to finish an extension without spending money, choose one of the concrete allowances above rather than assuming the Free plan supplies credits.

Runway: generate the next segment, then join it

Runway's current Seedance 2.5 workflow includes an Extend mode for footage before or after a source video. Describe the direction and the new action—for example, what should happen after the source ends.

Runway’s official Free-plan guide showing its one-time credit allocation and limited selection of generative tools

Its output contains only the new footage. If you extend a 30-second source by five seconds, the result is a five-second continuation, not a combined 35-second file. Assemble the source and extension in Studio to make one continuous export.

Runway's Free plan provides 125 one-time credits and a limited selection of tools. Check whether the selected extension workflow is available in your account and what it requires; the starting balance does not establish access to every model. Choose Runway when its generation-and-assembly workflow is already available to you, rather than relying on an older model's extension instructions.

Filmora: add editing handles on the timeline

Filmora can be useful if you are already editing your source video on a desktop timeline. Its published workflow lets you import the clip, select AI Extend, and drag the clip edge to request footage before or after it. The feature page describes up to five seconds forward or eight seconds backward.

Filmora’s official AI Video Extender page describing forward and backward extension from a source clip and prompt

You can enter the continuation direction through Stock Media, AI Media and Video Extend, then create the new footage and continue editing. This keeps trimming, titles and the final sequence in one project.

Check both the AI-credit allowance and export conditions. A free app download or trial does not mean unlimited AI extensions or a watermark-free finished video. This is a convenient existing-editor route when those conditions fit your project.

How to extend a video and keep the join convincing

Start with the amount of usable footage your edit needs. If the narration ends two seconds after the picture, you may only need a brief continuation and a trim. If you need to show a different action or place, plan another shot instead.

    1
  1. Choose a clean source ending. Use the original export where possible. Trim away a fade to black, an end card or a hard cut so the clip ends while the action is still readable. A steady camera move gives a clearer continuation cue than several rapid cuts.

  2. 2
  3. Keep an untouched copy. Save the source separately. Note its aspect ratio, frame rate and audio so you can restore the original or build a matched edit later.

  4. 3
  5. Choose the correct input route. Some tools accept a video from your device; others extend only assets generated on their own platform. Check file size and source-length requirements before preparing an upload. A still-image route starts a new clip from that frame.

  6. 4
  7. Request only the extra time you need. Check whether the length selector means added footage or the final combined duration. Short additions are easier to inspect, and you can trim unused time afterward.

  8. 5
  9. Give the next action, where prompts are supported. Keep the subject, setting and camera movement consistent. Automatic guest tools do not need you to find a prompt box that is not there.

  10. 6
  11. Check the generation conditions. Confirm the allowance, selected mode and output conditions before starting. If uploading automatically launches the job, make those choices first.

  12. 7
  13. Review, join and export. Watch across the original ending and new beginning at normal speed. If the tool returns a separate segment, place it directly after the source in an editor. Trim to the useful moment, align the sound and export one finished file.

A good source is a single shot that ends during an understandable action. Before extending a product reveal, for example, decide whether you need the camera to continue moving or merely want time to read a caption. The latter may be better served by a short hold or a separate end card.

Write a continuation prompt, not a new scene

A continuation prompt should describe the next beat while retaining the scene's existing direction. Use the action visible at the end as your starting point. Mention the camera when it affects the join, and keep lighting changes gradual.

Adapt these prompts to three common continuation tasks:

  • A slow camera move: “Continue the slow forward movement toward the greenhouse door. Keep the warm interior lights and blue evening sky. The camera approaches at the same pace as the final moment of the source.”

  • A product action: “Continue pouring tea into the same white cup. Keep the cup, hand and table arrangement consistent. The stream slows and stops, with the camera remaining still.”

  • A walking shot: “The person continues walking to the right at the same pace. Keep the same outfit, framing and afternoon light. The camera tracks alongside them for a few more steps.”

Use only the relevant details for your source. Asking a walking person to enter a different building, change clothes and turn into a close-up introduces several new problems at once. Make that a planned new shot when it belongs in the story.

If the result changes direction, simplify the instruction before adding more descriptive language. Identify the one motion that should continue and remove competing camera moves. The controls and prompt conventions still depend on the tool you selected.

Check the picture, sound and finished file

The first frame is only the beginning of a video check. Play the original and extension together, then inspect important details near the join and toward the new ending.

Check
What to look for
What to do before export
Motion and camera
A sudden speed change, reversed direction or an unexpected cut
Trim to a usable joining point; use a different take if the action no longer follows
Subject details
A changed face, hand, outfit, product shape or logo
Keep only footage that preserves the details your scene needs
Light and surroundings
A brightness jump, bending straight lines or moving background objects
Compare at full size and in motion, not just as a thumbnail
Text
Changing letters or a sign that becomes unreadable
Add required wording as an accurate text layer in the editor
Sound
A silent added segment, an abrupt ambience change or dialogue that no longer matches
Retain and edit the original track; add suitable ambience or narration separately
Final file
Only the new segment downloaded, an unintended frame rate, extra branding or the wrong ratio
Assemble, trim and check the final export before sharing

Do not assume that extending the picture also continues the original dialogue or music. Audio handling varies by route. Listen to the transition, keep a copy of the original track and decide whether the new footage needs ambience, narration or a deliberately quiet ending.

For a precise spoken line, finish the voice track and adjust the pictures around it. A few extra visual seconds can make room for the final phrase without asking a generated character to invent more speech. Reopen the exported file and watch through the ending once more.

Choose extension, another shot or a longer edit

Use extension when the same action needs a little more time: a pan reaching its destination, a product settling after a turn, or a reaction holding long enough for the next cut. It can also give B-roll room under narration or leave space for a caption. Add exact text after generation so the lettering remains under your control.

Choose another shot when the viewer needs new information. A wide view of a greenhouse can establish the place, followed by a close-up of a hand watering a seedling. Stretching the wide view will not reveal the close-up's detail. Plan the references and camera positions for consistent locations and characters across shots, then edit the views together.

If you start from an image, you are creating motion from a still. That can be a useful continuation method, but one frame does not capture all the source video's movement. Review the matched cut rather than assuming the new clip has inherited the original camera history.

For a complete story, combine different useful shots with sound and an ending. Our guide to AI tools for videos longer than one minute explains that larger production task. Repeatedly extending one shot is an option for sustained action, rather than a substitute for every scene the story needs.

AI video extender FAQ

The main distinctions are whether the tool accepts your source, how much new footage the free allowance covers, and what you can download or publish afterward.

Can I extend a video for free without an account?

Magic Hour's guest route adds four seconds and shares a limit of three free video generations per day. ExtendAI Video provides three monthly credits without an account, with five- and ten-second options using one or two credits. Inflyu's one-off short extension requires a verified email. Prepare a suitable source and check the current allowance before uploading.

Which free option has no watermark?

ExtendAI Video's current Free pricing explicitly lists watermark-free results. Inflyu's free extension includes its branding and a short end card. For other workflows, check the exact export conditions; a Free account, a watermark-free download and included generation credits are separate benefits. Invisible provenance information is also different from a visible logo.

How many seconds can I add?

The concrete free options here include four seconds through Magic Hour, five or ten through ExtendAI Video, and one four- or six-second extension through Inflyu. The added duration is different from the full video's running time. Further extensions consume resources and need another continuity check, especially if the shot includes a person, readable text or a precise product shape.

Will extending a video make it 4K?

Adding time and increasing resolution are separate operations. Check the resolution offered by the selected extension mode and the final export. A tool advertising 4K generation, export or upscaling does not necessarily provide native 4K video extension in its free route. Exporting a larger frame also does not recover detail missing from the source.

Can I use free extensions for commercial or private work?

Check the applicable plan, model and usage terms for the footage you intend to publish. Owning your input does not by itself establish every output permission.

For private footage, check provider processing, retention and deletion options before uploading. An unlisted result link is not the same as entirely on-device processing. Use media you have permission to process, including the people and protected material shown in it.

Does an extender also make a video wider?

A duration extender adds time before or after the existing footage. Frame expansion generates surroundings outside the original edges; changing aspect ratio can involve expansion, cropping or padding. Choose the mode for the actual job. Making a landscape video fill a portrait canvas does not inherently add any new seconds.

Give the scene the extra time it needs

Start with Dreamina when you want to direct a scene's next action and develop the visual idea through available video and reference workflows. Match the mode to your source, check the quote and keep the original while you refine the continuation.

For a small automatic addition without an account, consider Magic Hour or ExtendAI Video. For one prompted short extension after sign-up, Inflyu offers a clear starting allowance. If you already work inside another platform, use its extension controls with the appropriate model and access conditions.

Choose the few seconds that help the edit, check the join in motion and sound, and finish with one usable file. When you begin making several versions, compare AI video credit efficiency by accepted footage and the actual settings you use.
